The Most’est of the Post’est

Wednesday, February 6th 2019… Jury’s still out…

So, last night I had my first real Tai chi class in approximately 2 years. I was sore when we were finished (that was probably a good sign). I feel that I only scratched the surface – another good sign. I heard some things in his spiel that raised an eyebrow on the fact vs fiction side. But all in all, it was positive. I didn’t feel like I wasted my time. The style is similar to mine – that is also good (similarities in movement). I think I will practice when I get home later. Chi Gong is involved. It will be interesting to see if he has single sets or not, push hands or not, joint locks or not, darkness or not, wrestling or not, and how or not – the sword is an extension of the body.

Tuesday, February 5th 2019… Can’t wait…

I start a new Tai Chi class tonight. I hope its more traditional and not some new age, mumbo-jumbo, b.s. (like at the health club). Either Chen or Yang would be good, preferably Yang. Speaking of Yang…

v.3
Putting a value on status
will create contentiousness.
If you overvalue possessions,
people begin to steal.
By not displaying what is desirable,
you will cause people’s hearts
to remain undisturbed.

The sage governs
by emptying minds and hearts,
by weakening ambitions and
strengthening bones.

Practice not doing…
When action is pure and selfless,
everything settles into its own
perfect place.

Ya know, I never thought very much of Doctor Phil on Opra, but I was listening to his podcast and he’s got some dynamite advice in a new series that he is doing called “Living by Design” – part 1. It is via “Phil in the (blanks)” on Apple Podcast. I’ve been in enough therapy to know good advice when I hear it 🙂

Wednesday, January 30th 2019… A little more Yang please…

Coldest day of the year here in the Midwest – minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit at 8:30am with a high temperature of minus 13 today. I guess that to understand cold, you need hot. I am thinking of a hot, sunny summer day, temps above 90. Insects buzzing, sitting out on my concrete patio under a large patio umbrella, enjoying the breeze, the wind chimes, the birds chirping and a cold drink. In my minds eye, I can close my eyes and see the world today in all its splendor. And today, I can easily close my eyes and see that day. That thought can last forever and be revisited. Which day is more enjoyable? They are both enjoyable. The trees, plants, insects, animals don’t have concepts such as beauty or ugliness, splendor or asceticism; they simply are… in harmony of the eternal Dao, devoid of judgement. So the “Dao de Ching” teaches us.

v.2
Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty,
only because there is ugliness.
All can know good as good only be-
cause there is evil.

Being and nonbeing produce each other.
The difficult is born in the easy.
Long is defined by the short, the high by the low.
Before and after go along with each other.

So the sage lives openly with apparent duality
and paradoxical unity.
The sage can act without effort
and teach without words.
Nurturing things without possessing them,
he works, but not for rewards;
he competes, but not for results.

When the work is done, it is forgotten.
That is why it lasts forever.

Monday, January 28th 2019 … Trying to regain my path…

v.1
The Dao that can be spoken,
is not the eternal Dao.
The name that can be named,
is not the eternal name.

The Dao is both named and nameless.
As nameless, it is the origin of all things;
as named, it is the Mother of 10,000 things.

Ever desireless, one can see the mystery;
ever desiring, one only sees the
manifestations.

And the mystery itself is the doorway
to all understanding.

When we desire to view the mystery itself, it will always be fleeting. The object is to allow the mystery to happen. An analogy can be made – sleep. If we are constantly thinking of sleep, it will be painfully fleeting. However, if we relax, and don’t think of it, it will just happen. We still need to be receptive to it though.

Wednesday, January 23rd 2019… Got my old editor back…

Hmmmmm. Not quit sure about the new editor – the text box disappeared! WTF? It’s “classic” but is it classic enough? Only time will tell. Well, its been a month at the gym and I’ve gained 3.5 lbs. of muscle. Hopefully I can start losing some fat soon. I need to stay away from Dunkin Donuts. It’s proving a bit tougher than I thought. Vikash said something that I need to keep in mind… First – discipline, second – willpower, third – habit.

Tuesday, January 22nd 2019… Love me some Bolts!…

Went to Clearwater Beach this last weekend to see a Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game Saturday night.  They played the Sharks.  I got to wear my Stamkos jersey 🙂  Sunday was also an awesome sports day – even though it was only a high of 61 degrees, windy and rainy.  I was not impressed with Frenchy’s though this time.  I would stick with a burger next time.  I don’t think we’d go in January again though without the families.  It was tough leaving the wife home to snow blow the driveway in 7 degree weather while I sat in a hot tub on a 78 degree sunny afternoon.  Plus, she appreciates hockey and football.  Sunday was the Blackhawks at noon, the NFC Championship game at 3:30, and the AFC Championship game at 7.  And they were all great games!  What more could a fan ask for?  Toews had a hat trick.

Wednesday, December 26th 2018… We wish you a “Merry Christmas”…

Well, I’m glad that this year is coming to a close.  Hopefully next year is a better year.  Not that this year was a bad year as far as things go, it was just a long ass year as far as work is concerned.  I worked a lot of hours which diluted my take home pay, left me with no time to do other important things like clean and straighten the house, go to the bank, spend quality time with my spouse, and all the things that a normal person would do in their normal life.  No normal life for me.

This new “block” format is not really that new.  Well, maybe for WordPress but this is what Quattro Pro developed back in the 90’s. Everything old is new again… hahahaha.  Remember the “Object Inspector”?  Similar, just redesigned for WordPress.

Things I never really got to do this year… clean my basement, paint the paneling, set up my art stuff, straighten up my tools, collimate my 5″ reflector telescope, bring home and set up my amps with speakers, reconfigure my basement network.

Things I never really got to work on this year… study my tai-chi and chi-gong, work on my life drawing chops, work on my guitar, speak with Dan concerning getting back into functional martial arts

Tuesday, December 4th 2018… Well that was a bust…

So no Ocrevus from Northbrook – CVS didn’t deliver the goods – thanks for nothing CVS.  Had to reschedule.  Vikash came home yesterday to total IT chaos – an iSCSI controller was having network connection issues to the servers, which caused all the VMs to have issues as well as the VPN and the DCs.  My car would not start yesterday afternoon – battery problems.  I had to go to NTB to get a new battery (bummer).  The battery was only 2 years old.  However, I did some research – batteries can be up to 5 years old when you purchase your new car.  I didn’t know that.  Got to watch Mars tonight (l love that series) on Nat Geo.

Thursday, November 29th 2018… Sometimes time still flies when you’re having no fun…

OMG, I cant believe its been almost 2 months since I last posted.   My bud is coming home from abroad.  Actually, he is coming back to the states after being at his Indian home for a month 🙂  Thanksgiving is past, which was kinda nice to see all the family – well, except for my one sister.  Who I would just like to re-connect with, but don’t really know how.  I don’t want to walk on egg shells.  On the home front, all I’ve been doing is working.  Our bathroom is being redone (a roll-in shower), new tile, new fixtures, bathtub removed, new toilet, new vanity, sink.  Pretty much a “gut” job.  My wife is going for an infusion of Ocrevus on Monday.  I will be working remote, so I can be with her.  I have to go to the airport on Monday so I can pick up Vikash.  He doesn’t know it yet, but I’m bring him back to Northbrook with me.  The house is a dust palace – I took some time off around the holiday’s so I can clean the place and have some time to cook.
